Unseen Threat Part 2

As I was approaching English, I noticed something. One of the new kids, Anna, had a 6 over her head. While a 6 wasn't unheard of, I had never seen one at school before. Does she have a weapon I asked myself. For the rest of the day I tried to stay as far away as I could from Anna.

As I spotted Brandon from the corner of my eye, he was already approaching me. "Hey Brandon, how were your first two periods?" I asked. "They were okay, but I sat next to Anna during Finance. She gives me a weird vibe and I was rather uncomfortable the whole period. P.E was pretty good though. How about you?" "French and Music were boring as always." Jonathan entered the room and walked towards me, and Brandon definitely knew who he was. Jonathan was a massive 7'1.  He stuck out like a rose in a field of violets. But instead of a rose, he was like the Empire State Building.

"Hey Brandon! I was told you were pretty okay, so I thought 'why not?"' "Thanks?" Brandon responded. Jonathan always has fun making an awkward situation out of nothing. So I tried to recover the situation with "Brandon, what do you for fun?" fully aware that he played various video games. He replied "I play some games, how about you Jonathan?". I was so focused on Anna earlier that I had forgotten to stop by my locker. " Oops, I forgot my calc book in my locker, I'll be back soon. " I don't even think they heard me, they were already talking about some video game that went way over my head. I didn't care though, I was just glad they got along well.

When I returned, the class was silent. It was eerily quiet; so quiet I was half expecting a jump scare. "Attention class!" the teacher shouted, "It appears one of our students brought a gun to school and we have to evacuate the building. We do not know who the criminal is, but we saw a gun in one of the new kids' lockers." Everyone looked around and tried to figure out the culprit. Everyone put on their "I am really scared but trying to hide it" face and walked in an orderly fashion outside of the classroom. It was really surprising, as our class was full of troublemakers. Once we had reached the P.E field though, all hell broke loose.

There was so much talking and chatter, nothing of use could be done. The teachers tried to shout above the loud and obnoxious teenagers, but they stood no chance. That is literally what us teenagers specialize in. I found Jonathan quite easily because of height. Now Jonathan has a sort of dark/ironic sense of humor, and he saw his opportunity. He was spewing all kinds of school shooting and homicide jokes. Even threw in a bit of racism to make sure everyone in a 5 mile vicinity was offended. Now this definitely did not help the chaos, as people now felt the need to yell at their friends and Jonathan.

About 20 minutes later, the principal arrived with one of those over sized microphones and began his announcement.

Unseen Threats Part 1

This class is a bunch of under achievers. Look at this madness! Not one of you losers have posted over winter break, and it's rather disheartening. Anyway, on to my story. I'm also using names from my class because coming up with names is hard at 11:40.

So I've always had this power to see what people's "threat level" is. I know it sounds weird, but bear with me. I see numbers over people's heads, but for a long while I couldn't find the correlation between the number and the individual. While walking down the street, a seemingly harmless man would have a 2 over his head. But on the same day, the man an hour later would have a 6 or 7 (probably carrying a knife or weapon of some sort). It wasn't until I was witnessing  the birth of my younger sibling, Madelyn, that I recognized the pattern. She was a perfect 0. Nothing I had ever seen before had 0, even a toddler at daycare had a 0.5 or 1. Then I put the pieces together when I realized security outside was an 8. I haven't told anyone about these powers, and probably don't plan to; I don't want to become the next big science project.

Today I was walking to school with my good old friend Jonathan. He was probably making some dumb remark about the girl he liked or some trash techno music. It probably wasn't important. As we approached homeroom, he said "I should probably head off, see ya!". We were in different homerooms, but shared the same classes and periods. As I sat in my chair, the teacher looked off put   by something. I didn't know what it was, so I scanned the classroom and we were missing some students: Mesrop, Andrew, and Kenny. While I wasn't particularly close with this bunch of people, we had talked a couple of times and generally enjoyed each other's presence. In their chairs there were 3 new students, who seemed to be foreign. As the bell rung, the class settled down. Probably trying to finish homework.

Our teacher, Mr. Mantanic, announced "We have three new students. They have gathered from the four corners of the Earth today. Please welcome Anna from Germany, Judson from Nigeria, and Brandon from New Zealand. Our other classmates will return tomorrow, but for some reason they were put into another class by the computer, and we don't want anyone present being marked absent." I didn't have anything better to do, so I walked over to greet this bunch. Anna seemed rather aggressive and not open for conversation. So I walked over to Judson who seemed pretty calm and collected. I started with "Hey, I'm Melanie. I have been here a while, and can show you the ropes if you want." "Thanks, but I'm fine. Thank you for the offer though!". I was a little surprised when he declined my help because he seemed clueless, but to each his own.  So I walked over to the final student, Brandon. He seemed rather shy and kind of lonely, but so was I when I first moved here, so I can relate to what he is going through. "Hey Brandon." I began, he seemed rather surprised but responded "Hey, how are you doing?" "I'm doing quite dandy, how about you? Oh, I'm Melanie by the way."

Me and Brandon continued our conversation and he seemed like someone I could befriend. He has this goofy sense of humor that is eerily similar to mine.  He was clearly nervous (girls are scary!), but kept his composure. We had the same Math and English period. The homeroom bell rang and I had to go, but I was weirdly excited because life had gotten a bit dull and nothing really changed for a while. After French and Music I talked to Jonathan about Brandon. I'd introduce them during English.

As she turned over the mattress, it was clearly stolen. It still had all the tags left on the bottom of it. Sarah called over the police to notify them of this peculiar circumstance. The police were just as clueless as her.

The mattress was stolen from "Nice Sleep", a local store. She decided to check out the store. As Sarah went to the store, it was closing. This was quite strange, as she saw people crowding around the store just a week earlier. When she entered the building, it was empty. Completely vacant, no beds, no people, absolutely nothing.

When she looked around, there was a business card on the floor. It read "rendezvous at room 114". She quickly left the building as these unsolved mysteries made her rather uncomfortable. She got back in her car and started driving home. On her way home, Sarah remembered her husband. Sarah was overcome with depressing thoughts. She made a decision she would never be able to undo. She swerved right directly through traffic and into a gas pump. If the initial impact didn't kill her, the explosion sure did.
Suicide is never the answer.

As Sarah entered the room, there he was. Her husband's cold, lifeless, body. Sarah immediately went to a state of panic; her wonderful, joyful, and lively husband was sitting there now dead and naked on the hardwood floor. She collapsed onto the floor on her knees, what was she to do without her partner? She was going to grow fat and old with this man. But there he was, lying there lifelessly. What were Christopher and Madelyn going to think?  They were only 5, and weren't going to realize the significance of this truly tragic event. Sarah cried herself to sleep, right next to her husband's corpse.

Upon waking up, Sarah completely forgot what had happened, but then reality set in. She finally did the adult thing and called 991 and hopefully find out what caused this tragedy. After that she picked up her two children, the only thing she had left. This wasn't going to be an easy conversation. She walked into the daycare with tears in her eyes, barely able to speak. She just grabbed the kids by the neck of their shirts and basically dragged them to the car.

Once in the car, her two children saw no reason for alarm. They had just had a fantastic day! They made the coolest sand castle ever seen. After Sarah got her act together, she explained what had happened. The kids were absolutely devastated. Why wouldn't they be? Their outstanding father just wasn't there anymore. Gone.

Upon arriving home, the police were already there. She had sent the kids to their respective rooms and joined the police in her bedroom. Upon entering the room, she almost passed out again. She still couldn't comprehend what had happened. It all happened so quickly. They had the room marked in what seemed like hundreds of places. Because Sarah collapsed and couldn't see clearly, she had missed some key details. This clearly wasn't an accident. There was a quite strong smell of poison in the air, and a spilled drink next to his nightstand.

Upon further investigation, she had realized something the police hadn't. The mattress was replaced. Who in their right mind would replace the mattress of the person they were planning to murder?
